I Did Something Scary Last Night...
Not to sound so dramatic, but I stepped out of my comfort zone last night and I think we can all agree how intimidating that can be. I'm working on growing my business and getting my name out there and I've learned that networking is vital for success.
I don't have much experience networking so the thought of talking to people I don't know really made me nervous. I did one real estate event a year or two ago on behalf of someone else and tried my best to talk to as many people as I could. I must have done something right because I walked away with a new friend! Either way, doing it for myself this time was a different experience.
I attended my first speed networking event last night and made some connections with a few female business owners that I'm excited to get to know better. It was definitely a learning experience having only two minutes to tell someone about who I am and what I do, so let's just say I will be practicing my elevator pitch more aggressively moving forward. Thankfully, all the women I spoke with were really great and encouraging and didn't seem to mind me jumping all over the place with my words. You'd think as a writer I would be more well versed, but when there's a human on the other end instead of a computer screen or a notebook, it's a little different.
Now to get to the point.
Sometimes in life we need to do things that scare us so we can grow and develop as a person. It's okay to start off shaky and erratic, we all need to start somewhere, and you're not going to know what does and doesn't work for you until you try. In my previous years, I've ran things behind the scenes for other people so it's a new perspective being in the spotlight this time. While I am very excited for this new chapter I'm still a bit nervous because selling myself in this sense is new to me, but I've had to advocate for myself in the past so I'm pretty sure I can do it again. I didn't become a published model and poet just by sitting around all day.
Oh! At the event last night, I purchased a Sprite and the total came out to be $3.33. For my numerology/spiritual friends, seeing that number reassured me that I'm moving in the right direction and it gave me a slight boost in confidence. For those who don't know, the number 333 signifies growth in all aspects of your life, from personal to professional; It also indicates a positive energy towards your quest.
If you take one thing from this post, take this... Do the thing you've never done before; stop thinking about it and just do it. Do the things that scare you so you can go places you've never been to before. I'm no expert, but so far this new journey of mine has been rewarding in many ways so I encourage you to take a chance on yourself and do the same. Life is already scary, so why not have some fun with it?
