When I Was A Kid
Published October 1st 2015

Colors were changing quickly,

And the leaves were chasing one another to the ground.

The sun was shining down on me,

And the birds were flying away into all these different directions,

To find a new place to stay;

Before winter came to play.

When I was a kid,

I used to jump in a pile of leaves and toss em’ high in the air-

Without a care in the world.

Now I’m old enough to know how gross it is,

But I still do it while no ones looking.

When I was a kid,

I used to collect as many leaves as I could,

One of each and every size,

In every color they came in.

Now I wish they weren’t so diverse,

Because it takes me forever to clean up my yard-

And I’m not getting paid to do it anymore.

Colors change,

Leaves create patterns all across the ground.

The sun shines just perfectly,

And I can wear my brand new sweater that I bought back in June.

But the best part about it being fall;

The birds can no longer wake me up so early-

Because now my alarm clock has taken over that job.

When I was a kid,

Fall was my favorite season of the year;

And it still is.
